Travellers at Frankfurt airport will soon have greater access to touchless biometric technology for check-in, security and boarding with the facilities being rolled out to all terminals by spring 2023, airport operator Fraport, announced
The airport is working with IT provider SITA and tech integrator NEC to rollout a ‘common use’ biometric platform that will be open to all airlines operating at the airport and will allow travellers to pass through each stage of the airport journey by simply scanning their face.
The move follows biometric trials by Lufthansa at the German hub and the technology will combine Star Alliance Biometrics with additional biometric hubs under the SITA Smart Path platform.
Pierre Dominique Prumm, Fraport’s executive director of aviation and infrastructure, said: “We are extremely excited to be able to transform the experience for all our passengers across all terminals and carriers with one simple, intuitive solution.”
“We also value that SITA and NEC’s innovative technology allows our infrastructure to be truly future-proof, with the capacity to grow with us as industry demands and travel patterns shift,” he added.
According to the airport, key learnings from the rollout will be used for ‘further implementations’ across the Star Alliance network as it looks to encourage more of its 26 member carriers to implement biometric technology.
